Wyoming Black footed ferret
Another creature to be found in Wyoming is the black footed ferret.  The Black-footed Ferret is a small meat-eating North American animal from the desert that is related to the Steppe Polecat of Russia and belongs to the diverse family Mustelidae. This group  also includes polecats, mink, badgers, weasels, martens, and otters. Don't confuse the Black Footed Ferret with a domesticated ferret!

An endangered animal in North America, according to the U.S Fish and Wildlife Service, the Black-footed Ferret became wiped out in the wild in Canada back in 1937. They were categorized as endangered in the United States back in 1967. The only known wild group was captured back in 1985, a few years after it was accidentally discovered in Meeteetse. Guess what? They were raised at the Wyoming Game and Fish research center, right in the heart of Sybille Canyon

Freeing the captive animals has re-introduced the group to portions of its prior habitat, and now these groups have made what has been called an "amazing comeback".  More can be learned about the Wyoming Black footed Ferret at ye olde wikipedia of course!
